ESF Science Corps

Connecting campus and community through volunteerism and learning.

Science Corps offers year-round programming designed to connect the ESF campus with the greater Central New York community. We do this by training and activating a dynamic volunteer force of ESF students from all majors, class years, and backgrounds to lead STEM education with regional schools and organizations.

Through our programs, ESF student volunteers gain experience in developing, coordinating, and carrying out educational programming on campus, in the classroom, and at community events. In return, K-12 students are introduced to academic opportunities at ESF and career paths in environmental science and STEM.  We also engage ESF faculty and staff in our programs.

Thanks for your interest in helping inspire the next generation of environmental champions!

We offer monthly hour-long workshops designed to support ESF Science Corps student volunteers and employees interested in the Science Corps mission. They are an easy way to gain a new skill, learn about a new field, try new techniques, and supplement your outreach and educational work.

Workshops curated around a unifying theme each semester and are presented by a mix of ESF and community experts — so you can learn from the perspective of an educator, researcher, historian, artist, counselor, and beyond! We cover a wide range of topics, such as communication skills; ways to improve the STEM fields; and diversity, equity, inclusion, and access in STEM.

If your ESF student club or organization would like to create a workshop, we can help!

Get updates about workshops by following Science Corps on Engage.

Academic Year Programming

From September through June, we host school groups on our Syracuse campus. Students learn about our cutting-edge research, academic programs, and the impactful work we’re doing to improve our world. We can tailor a visit to complement your science curriculum, ensure grade-level areas of emphasis, or introduce your students to something new.

If your school or organization would like to collaborate, we invite you to reach out.

Summer Programming

Weeklong STEM programming for middle and high school students.

Each week during the summer, we’re thrilled to host a different group of middle and high school students who participate in immersive STEM programming. We offer activities emphasizing environmental stewardship, field and lab work, innovative research, and community-building. In addition to spending time at ESF’s Syracuse campus, we also make outings to other locations including Onondaga Lake Park, Green Lakes State Park, and ESF’s regional campuses!

If you sign up to be a summer partner, you’ll receive priority consideration for campus visits and outreach activities during the academic year, making the summer fun last all year long!
